Despite previous claims that he ‘loved’ getting abuse from opposition fans, it all appeared too much for Ashley Cole when the final whistle blew at the Emirates Stadium. Chelsea had just lost 1-0 to his former club Arsenal in a fierce-tempered match, he’d just been clattered by Fabregas and had been subjected to the expected jeers from Gunners fans throughout the game.
The Telegraph today report that the England full-back could be charged by the FA over alleged v-sign gestures to pockets of Arsenal fans. This is despite Chelsea manager Avram Grant’s assertion that he handled the atmosphere well.
“In the beginning of the game, they challenged him, made a lot of fouls on him but he is a big boy and was okay with it.
“This was not a problem. He played good. I think it gave him more motivation.”
Earlier this week, Chelsea were found guilty of failing to control their players after Michael Essien was sent off against Derby in November so harsher punishment could be on its way.
As for the V-sign, well did anyone witness it?
