Rather than become more likeable since the departure of Jose Mourinho as manager, Chelsea under Avram Grant are continuing to snarl their way around football pitches and criticise referees for singling them out for special treatment. Now, you can add play-acting to the list of reasons to dislike Chelsea, if Peter Crouch is to be believed in the Liverpool Echo. While the striker admits he can have no complaints about his dismissal, he isn’t enamoured with the reaction of his victim Jon Obi Mikel.
“There are no excuses for the tackle I made but if the referee had pulled the foul up when he should have done it wouldn’t have happened.
“What I’m thinking is if you go in on Frank Lampard or John Terry would they roll around like Obi Mikel did?
“I don’t think they would have done.
“Would someone like Carra have gone down like that? I think it’s safe to say that he wouldn’t.
“Foreign players have brought a lot to our game but that’s something you don’t want to see. I didn’t catch him but he’s gone down like he’s been shot.”
Is this just sour grapes from the Liverpool forward or does he have a point in suggesting that the loveable Mikel is following in the footsteps of Arjen Robben and Joe Cole? Look out for the next flashpoint when Chelsea travel to Ewood Park on Sunday in another match sure to involve plenty of meaty challenges.
