Steve Howard was Derby’s player of the season last term, but the Daily Telegraph report that the former Luton striker has joined Leicester for £1.5million. It’s not a bad bit of business for the Rams, when you consider the player was bought for £1million at the start of last season and played a key role in helping them achieve promotion.
Manager Paul Jewell appears to have signed his replacement already, with just the i’s to be dotted and the t’s to be crossed on a deal for Argentine Emanuel Villa.
“This is a deal we have almost completed,” said Jewell. “The player will be flying in later this week for a medical and barring any hitches he will sign for us.”
It appears that the Rams will be adding further new faces this month, but surely Jewell will already be thinking about re-building for next season in the Championship, with the odds massively stacked against County staying in the Premier League this term.
