Is the SPL right to postpone Wednesday’s Old Firm game?

The Scottish Premier League has postponed this week’s Old Firm game following Saturday’s tragic death of Motherwell captain Phil O’Donnell. The SPL’s decision came on a request from Celtic, one of O’Donnell’s former clubs, according to the SPL website. The league discussed the matter with Rangers and agreed to postpone the game. “Arrangements for re-scheduling will be advised in due course,” the SPL site added.

The Old Firm game is not the first to be shelved as a result of the tragedy. Motherwell’s game against Hibernian was postponed, followed on Sunday with Gretna delaying their game against St Mirren, which was due to take place at Fir Park – now wreathed in tributes to 35-year-old midfielder O’Donnell.

Celtic’s visit to Motherwell on Sunday has also been postponed. But Wednesday’s three other SPL fixtures are set to go ahead as scheduled.

Should the SPL have called these games off as well? Should they have gone ahead with all of them – 0r is their course of action the right one?
