News reaches us from the BBC website that the ever-unpredictable Laurent Robert could be returning to the Premier League, albeit for just a handful of months. The French winger, who spent four-and-a-half years with Newcastle United, looks set to have a trial with Derby County after having his contract cancelled by Spanish club Levante.
Paul Jewell said: “We will have a look at him and see what condition he’s in because we are desperately short of numbers.
“In January, plenty needs to happen. The players are down after the Bolton result and you expect that. It seems like one blow after another at the moment and it tests our resolve, but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves.”
Quite whether the former French international is up to scratch is anyone’s guess. However, he was popular on Tyneside, scoring 22 goals for the Magpies in 110 league starts. Perhaps Newcastle should consider giving him a go in a bid to improve their goalscoring fortunes!
