New England manager Fabio Capello is not due to start work until Monday, although the Daily Mail have reported that the Italian is jetting in a few days early to take in some of the weekend’s FA Cup action. Nose to the grindstone, eh Fabio!
He plans to watch Aston Villa entertain Manchester United tomorrow evening — especially Villa’s electrifying forward Gabriel Agbonlahor. The Italian also wants to attend a game on Sunday, which may be Liverpool’s FA Cup visit to Luton. Capello drew up his itinerary after talking to FA chief Brian Barwick yesterday, who will accompany him to Villa Park.
Many England fans will be pleased to see some new names in Capello’s first England squad for the game against Switzerland next month, especially if they are in the starting XI. Is Agbonlahor good enough to compete on an international stage? Or is there now generally a higher standard of football in the Premier League than the vast majority of friendly, World Cup and Euro qualifying matches?
