For the umpteenth time, Joey Barton is sorry for the recent aggravation he has caused and promises not to do it again. Quite whether Sam Allardyce should give him another chance is open to debate, although The Guardian report that the former Manchester City player has at least apologised to his angry manager.
“I’ve only spoken to him on the phone and he has apologised. He is obviously relieved he is out of prison. From there he has got to concern himself about his case and try to sort that out now. From our point of view, we need to keep him fit to play, if and when he is available again.”
The jury remains out on Barton, both in and out of the courtroom at the moment. Aside from scoring a last-minute penalty at Fulham, he is currently being remembered for all the wrong reasons and it’s difficult to sometimes recall what a talent he was in a Manchester City shirt. Surely he’s drinking in last-chance saloon as far as Sam Allardyce and the Newcastle board are concerned.
