It seems that Manchester City are connected with every single transfer story that is emerging heavily from the closet. City appear to be after any and every player who is even remotely inclined to a move way from his club and manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is having a tough time keeping track of it all.
Take the ridiculously murky situation of Amantino Mancini. The 28-year Brazilian is one of the best of players in the Italian Serie A and since last summer has sparked interest in a plethora of top European clubs. And now Man City are being linked with the AS Roma winger with the player reported to be eager for a switch to a non-Italian club.
Here are two conflicting reports on this matter. First, Sky Sports reports that City manager Eriksson is eager to take the player on board and quotes the Swede as saying:
I want Mancini here immediately as he is the ideal man to strengthen my squad. He could become my Cristiano Ronaldo. Money isn’t a problem for us, but it depends on whether Roma want to sell him. I know that contract talks have hit a brick wall, but we will have to talk to his agent Gilmar Veloz.
That was supposed to be told to Il Romanista. But the City manager appears to have said something entirely different to the club’s website. This is the quite as reported by ESPN Soccernet:
I don’t know where that has come from, it must have come from Roma. I have never spoken about that player with anyone.
So there you have it. The best way to know whether Man City are really interested in airlifting Mancini from Rome is to, well, ring Eriksson and ask him.
