Pascal Chimbonda’s number appears to be up at White Hart Lane, with Sky Sports reporting that the former Wigan full-back is eyeing a January transfer to Aston Villa. Tottenham’s defensive problems are beyond a joke and manager Juande Ramos clearly doesn’t think the French full-back is up to much when it comes to keeping the opposition at bay.
According to Chimbonda’s agent, Willie McKay, the Frenchman would be interested in a move to Villa Park.
“Would Pascal welcome a move to Aston Villa? Of course he would. He is looking to leave Tottenham and Villa are a big club with great potential,” said McKay.
Some might say that Chimbonda is getting a taste of his own medicine after lodging a transfer request from Wigan straight after their Carling Cup semi-final with Arsenal two seasons ago. Will Aston Villa replace Olaf Mellberg with a player who has been part of such a porous Tottenham defence for two seasons? Or was that all Paul Robinson’s fault?
