Wigan Athletic’s days in the English Premier League appear to be numbered. The club is struggling just one place off the relegation zone and is 17th in the table only because of a superior goal difference. Manager Steve Bruce knows that he needs reinforcements and the needs them fast.
And he has started doing exactly that. Sky Sports reports that Bruce has signed the 23-year old Honduran international striker Wilson Palacios on a three-and-a-half year contract from Deportivo Olimpia but the transfer fee hasn’t been disclosed.
Bruce and Palacios had earlier worked at Birmingham but at the time the player was on loan. But now that he has made a permanent move to the Premiership, Palacios is visibly delighted.
I am really happy to sign for Wigan. I like Steve as a manager and I think it is an ambitious club that is going places. I can’t wait to get started now. When the loan finished at Birmingham, Wigan were the first to come in and make me an offer and now I want to focus everything on doing my best here.
Palacios is a decent striker but is he the Messiah to drag Wigan out if the relegation mess that they are in at the moment?
