Messiah Kevin Keegan to return to Newcastle United?

Is Kevin Keegan to be the man who bells the cat, or in other words, is he going to be the man on whose neck the Newcastle albatross is hung?

Sky Sports reports that the former Newcastle United and England manager is hotly tipped to take over the reigns at St. James’ Park after favourite Harry Redknap pulled himself out of the reckoning last week. Keegan himself is somewhat divided about whether he would like to take up the managerial post vacant at the Geordies after Sam Allardyce’s departure last week.

This is what Keegan told Sky Sports:

I’m not ruling myself in or out, or anything, It’s a club I love and that’s all I’m prepared to say. Everybody knows that. It’s a club I’ve managed before.

Keegan managed the Geordies in the mid-1990s and even led the club to third spot in the Premiership in the 1995-1996 season but only after squandering a 12-point lead at the top. The last managerial job that Keegan was involved in was almost three years ago when he was charge of Manchester City.

Kevin Keegan does cut a hugely respectable figure in English football but will he be the right man for the Newcastle job? Will he able to stern the sinking Newcastle ship?
