The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool are all set to swoop for a 15 year-old Rochdale youngster Matty Hughes and offer him the chance of a lifetime to move to Anfield:
“Defender Hughes, 15, has been an ever-present in the reserves at Spotland this season, despite still being in his final year at secondary school. And Liverpool have now offered the Stockport-born teenager a week-long trial with a view to a permanent move that could net £200,000 in compensation for the League Two club.”
The 15 year old defender – who has fresher memories of being in nappies that Sami Hyppia has of starting his football career – is obviously rated by Rochdale, whose assistant boss Dave Flitcroft said: ”
Matty has great leadership qualities and a fantastic attitude and I can honestly say I have never seen a young player so focused.
“To see a story like this unfold in front of your eyes is fantastic. When he has trained with the first-team, the senior professionals have given their all to help his improvement.
“I feel sure that Matty is going to be a real player who goes on to play at a very high level.”
Hughes is obviously a very special talent – just watch this space (for about five years)…
