A veritable swarm of transfer rumours for friday….

Newly re-crowned Toon king Kevin Keegan is attempting to hit the ground running. Armed with a huge vat of cash but with just two weeks to spend it, Keegan will try and nab both Jermain Defoe (to add to Newcastle’s phalanx of strikers) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (because he has a ‘thing’ for wingers). Birmingham have signed Everton’s Scot-God James McFadden, for a fee of £5m which will rise to £5.75m if he jumps through the required hoops. (Guardian)
…And Everton boss David Moyes will now turn to Barcelona’s Santi Ezquerro as a ready-made replacement. (Daily Telegraph)

Liverpool’s Rafa Benitez is looking to his native Spain to cure his team’s current ills. Benitez is running the rule over Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta and Spain under-21 midfielder Javi Martinez, as well as still pining for Gabriel Heinze. (Daily Telegraph)
