If Newcastle United fans were expecting a win in Kevin Keegan’s first match in charge of the club, then they were in for some disappointment. The Geordies could only draw 0-0 with a tough and physical Bolton Wanderers side that is struggling for survival this season. And Keegan too was disappointed with the result.
The Newcastle manger told Sky Sports:
The icing on the cake would have been to have put in a better performance than we did and win the game but I suppose you start to get greedy and want everything. There was a tremendous reception and that was something we hoped the players would build on, but we didn’t give them enough today, we didn’t give them quite enough to send them home happy. Maybe in little glimpses in the second half we showed that we are a team that wants to win games, that wants to play in front of them and that we have a lot of players who can.
Anyway Keegan, you didn’t lose the match. That would have been much worse! Better luck next time.
