A few weeks ago Fernando Torres made a statement of intent when he came out of the blocks and publicly declared that the Liverpool players were firmly behind their manager Rafael Benitez in the owner-versus-manager fiasco. The Spanish international striker has repeated his stance again according to Goal.com.
I can’t see that happening. I don’t think English football has lost its patience like it seems. Benitez will not leave and he will not be sacked. It is a lie. Benitez is not just another manager. He created a team and put his faith in players that owe him a lot.
This is just another episode to the saga that is currently rocking Liverpool both on the pitch and off it. George Gillett and Tom Hicks, the American co-owners of the Merseyside club, are losing their support to the Liverpool supporters. The Reds fans are ready to sacrifice the American duo and keep Rafa at Anfield but with the results not going according to expectations and Rafa demanding more funds in January to sign new players, relationship between the manager and his employers is getting increasingly impaired.
