Arsenal have often been guilty of red-card challenges under Arsene Wenger but usually for offences against the opposition. The Gunners were utterly humiliated by Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup semi-final second-leg tie at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night, but more misery was piled on them by the behaviour of Arsene Wenger’s two young strikers.
Sky Sports reports that Emmanuel Adebayor and Nicklas Bendtner lashed out at each other as frustration multiplied late in the match just before Cesc Fabregas was about to take a corner. Television footage revealed that after an exchange of words, Adebayor hit Bendtner and cut his nose. The situation was then of course calmed down by team mates but this overt demonstration of frustration from the duo is hardly a good sign.
Of course, Spurs won’t complain and must be cackling their heads off right now. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is trying to play down the matter, but the fact that bust-up occurred during a match and not at a training session wouldn’t be easily brushed under the carpet. The news must be good fodder for a few more days at least!
