Zurab Khizanishvili signs new Blackburn deal

Sportsnetwork reports that Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili has signed a new three-year contract with the English Premier League and will stay at Ewood Park until 2011.

The captain of the Georgian national team arrived at Ewood Park in the summer of 2006 and although he has featured in just 5 matches for Blackurn so far this season, club manager Mark Hughes still considers him a vital component of his team and thus is happy with the contract extension.

Blackburn, in 8th spot in the Premiership table, are gunning for UEFA Cup spot and need to hold onto their players. Khizanishvili might not be world class but he is certainly a strong defender who can be a useful player for Blackburn as the season progresses.
