Derby County are now the fourth club to go to the hands of American investors. The Derby County-Mad has reported that the American consortium that are virtually assured of owning the club will be making their appearance on Monday.
Derby have been in talks with these America sports investors who are yet to be name for several weeks now. All that is known about these American billionaires is that the consortium is heavily involved in investments in American sports such as American football, baseball and basketball.
Derby are rock bottom in the English Premier League and are practically guaranteed of dropping into the Championship at the end of the season, But Rams chairman Adam Pearson is optimistic that new funds poured into the club will be useful in the long run.
This new investment will establish the Derby County brand worldwide through successful alliances with sporting teams in the USA, the Far East and Africa. The key aim is to continue to build the infrastructure of the club at Pride Park and obviously develop a squad which is renowned as a Premier League force.
So another English club goes into the hands of the Americans. Surely Derby need a healthy injection of cash to compete in the top flight but what about the long term consequences? Are we moving towards an era when the Premiership clubs will be in foreign hands?
