The new face of Derby County has been revealed. Sky Sports reports that the rock bottom English premier League club has unveiled their new American owners with optimism bubbling in the air all around.
The new owners of the debt ridden club are the US group General Sports and Entertainment which is a multi-faceted sports and entertainment marketing and managing firm heavily involved in American sports such as American football, baseball and basketball.
Derby chairman Adam Pearson has this to say about the takeover:
This is a significant day in the history of this club and the takeover adds new financial firepower, underpinning a long-term plan to establish Derby County as a major player in the Premier League and as an international club brand. The long-term aim is to establish the Derby County brand worldwide through successful alliances with sporting teams in the USA, Far East and other continents. The immediate aim, though, is to continue to build the infrastructure of the club at Pride Park and obviously develop a squad which, over the coming seasons, is renowned as a Premier League force.
Well, one good thing is that money will flow into the club and this money wouldn’t be borrowed funds. But to suggest that Derby will conquer the market of the Far East is, to put it mildly, naïve.
