As was widely suspected, Olof Mellberg is set to leave Villa Park in the summer and join Juventus. The BBC report that the Swedish defender has agreed a three-year deal with the Italian club and will leave Aston Villa after six seasons in Birmingham.
“I am very happy with this agreement. “It will be an important experience.
“Now I must finish the season in an Aston Villa shirt but I really cannot wait to come to Juventus,” he said.
Mellberg has been a first-team regular for the Villans this season, although it remains to be seen whether manager Martin O’Neill will continue to field a player whose future lies elsewhere. Is this is a setback to the club’s ambitions of challenging the ‘Big Four’ or will the team cope perfectly well without him?
