You would be forgiven to have believed that Tottenham Hotspur had managed to sign England international defender Jonathan Woodgate from Middlesbrough. Even I thought they had and so did most. Yet there has been another twist in the tail and again it is a London twist.
Sky Sports reports that a third club intervened into the proceeding. While previously Woodgate had to make the choice between Spurs and Newcastle United with Middlesbrough happy to sell the former Real Madrid player to either club, another premiership club has joined in the race to acquire the signature of the defender as the January window shuts up.
Middlesbrough chief executive Keith Lamb told Talksport:
We’ve agreed a fee with Tottenham and as far as I’m aware he went down at the weekend to have a medical and we’re just waiting to see. We agreed a fee with Tottenham, Newcastle and another club but we left it up to Jonathan, he could stay or go.
So which is this third club? Sky Sports suggests that it is Arsenal. Is it really so? I wonder…..
