Ronaldo lines up a special Man United goal bonus

Has Sir Alex Ferguson given Cristiano Ronaldo the kiss of death (conjures up a nice mental image, doesn’t it)? The Daily Mail report that the Manchester United manager will be happy to cough up some more cash for the Portuguese superstar (like he needs it), providing the player’s prolific goalscoring continues.

“With Ronaldo having scored 25 goals already there is the potential for him to score 30 this season, without question,” said Fergie. “I’m not sure that he is capable of scoring 30 league goals, though. I think that is a different matter entirely.

“It is a big ask, but if he does manage it, I’ll pay him more money.

“I had a bet with him last season over how many goals he’d get and I lost, so there was no bet this between us this time around. I’m making sure I keep my money.

“When this season started, people were asking whether Ronaldo could get 23 goals like he managed last season. I said ‘Why not?’ because the boy is such an exceptional talent.”

Can the United goal machine add another 13 league goals to his tally this campaign, thus reaching that incredible figure of 30? It’s entirely likely this will happen, especially if he stays at anywhere near his current goals-per-game ratio. And to think that Didier Drogba top-scored with 20 Premier League goals for Chelsea last season.
