Last week it appeared to be a done deal, yet the Daily Telegraph now report that Tottenham have missed their chance to bolster their midfield by signing Tiago. The former Chelsea player now appears to be staying put at Juventus, according to their sporting director Alessio Secco.
“We have received a number of requests for him and Tottenham followed him over the last few days,” Secco said.
“But, they [Spurs] took their time, and now there is not much time left to conclude the deal, so Tiago is no longer on the market.
“Now he has got the chance to show his capabilities here with us.”
Will Spurs fans be crying into their cereal this morning or instead feel comforted that Juande Ramos is doing a sterling job without adding too many players to the squad in January. The arrival of Jonathan Woodgate will certainly help to continue their improvements at the back, the department that was crying out for attention.
