Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill is still keen on signing on players as only two days remain for the transfer market to wrap up. Express and Star has reported that the Ulsterman is keen on bringing Wayne Routledge from fellow Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur.
Routledge is a England Under 21 international but at Spurs he has discovered himself increasingly on the sidelines with not anyone not so much as mentioning his name. But Villa manager O’Neil is busy strengthening his modest side in order to enlarge it for a possible UEFA Cup place next season and is willing to airlift Routledge from north London to Birmingham.
Routledge has have has separate loan spells at Portsmouth and Fulham but have failed to hold onto the impression that he exhibited in his schooldays. Now 23, Routledge looks more and more like a promise gone all horribly, horribly wrong yet at Villa Park and under the intelligent Martin O’Neill,
Routledge may rekindle the old spark.
