Scott Carson eager to make a point with England

Aston Villa custodian Scott Carson is having a fantastic season this time around and his string of stupendous performances on the pitch for the UEFA Cup hopefuls has helped to allay much of the biting criticisms that he received from the English press and fans alike when he made a disastrous debut for England against Croatia in the final game of the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Carson has received a recall to the England set-up by new coach Fabio Capello and the goalkeeper is eager to make amends and prove his critics wrong. Goal.com quotes Carson as saying:

That’s the annoying thing about being a keeper in that people remember your mistakes. People say you’ve got to be mad to be a keeper and sometimes I agree with them! But the Croatia disappointment has really helped me as a person. I’m not one to dwell on mistakes. I put it to the back of my mind straight away and, since then, I think I’ve done well for Villa. I’ll certainly be looking to make a good impression. I have a lot to prove. I am only a youngster and I have a lot to learn. It’s going to be a challenge and one I’m ready for.

Carson wouldn’t start the match against Switzerland on February 6 though but he could make his appearance against the Swiss later on in the match should the Italian decide to roll on the substitutes as the match wears on.
