Just when Kevin Keegan thought things couldn’t get any worse at St James’ Park, one of Newcastle’s best players is looking for a move to London this summer. The Guardian report that although Charles N’Zogbia hasn’t yet mentioned the word ‘goldfish bowl’, the winger has told his manager that a long-term career on Tyneside is not for him.
Yesterday Keegan said: “Charles came to see me about all the speculation [linking him with Tottenham]. He’s just signed a new contract here but it’s something we’ll have to revisit in the summer because the signs are that he is not happy here. But this is a big club and we’ve got two to three months to work with him.”
It’s amazing that any player wants to leave such a ‘special club’, especially with everyone in London more interested in going to the theatre than watching football. Still, this will be a blow to Keegan, who is looking to strengthen his squad rather than lose valuable players such as Zoggy. Perhaps Arsene Wenger will take a shine to the player – he is French after all!
