Everton’s Yakubu apologizes at last

The Ayegbeni Yakubu circus has finally wrapped up. The player unwittingly threw himself into a controversy when he returned three days late from African Cup of Nations duty for Nigeria and invited the wrath of Everton manager David Moyes who dropped him against Reading last weekend as a punishment.

But Yakubu now says that all that is in the past. He featured in Everton’s UEFA Cup win over Brann on Wednesday and said:

I feel like a part of a family here with everyone working together. We want to win something and achieve something together. I am so pleased to be playing again and it is thanks to the players and the manager. I came back late and I have apologised to everyone for that – the supporters too. It happened for personal reasons but I promise it won’t happen again. I am so pleased to be back again now and playing again.

So all is now fine between Yakubu and Everton. That’s good news for the Goodison faithful.
