McManaman distances himself from Birmingham elections

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid star Steve McManaman has distanced himself from a possible director’s role at Birmingham City just days after it was reported in the British press that the struggling Premiership club’s leading shareholder Carson Yeung was eager to make Macca his representative at St. Andrew’s.

At the time, McManaman too appeared to be willing to don on the flashy suits and expensive tie and attach a Director of Football tag to his CV. But now the former England international says that it was all a mistake and that he is not standing for any elections at the club.

Macca remarks:

I am not standing any more and don’t want to be nominated. It was all a bit of a mistake.

Not that Yeung would be lamenting too much. After all, it was sort of fantasy and Yeung’s image would have certainly been helped had Macca accepted the offer. Anyway, life goes on as usual at St Andrew’s.
