Birmingham set to move to a new stadium in 2014?

Birmingham City might well drop to the Championship at the end of the season but the club Board is looking at the broader picture and at the long term prospect. A new stadium is in the fold as reports suggest. They are actually trying to convice the Birmingham City Council to let them assess the potential site at Saltley and hope to complete constructing the stadium by 2014.

The Midland Blues currently play at St. Andrew’s and the new stadium would enable them to allow people inside the stadium and that will generate more revenue and gate recepts. The club is ready to spend £20 million from their own pockets and would require the remainder of the money from loans.

So is Birmingham’s idea to move into a new stadium by the middle of the next decade a good one? Should the Blues indeed do that considering that they are not guaranteed of playing Premiership football season after season?
