The Guardian reports that Manchester United would have to pay an astromical €60 million (£45.3 million) to French giants Olympique Lyonnais should they want to secure the services of French international star Karim Benzema. Man United have been consistently link with making a formal bid for the exceptionally gifted 20-year old striker but Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas insists that the Premiership giants would have to meed their demands to sign the player in the summer.
Benzema played against Man United in the UEFA Champions League in midweek and also scored a goal against them as Lyon drew 1-1 with United at the Stadio Municipal de Gerland in the first leg of the last 16 tie between the two sides. Benzema was the best player for Lyon in the match and his contribution to making the game a spectacle was singled out by even the United players.
But Man United would have to hurry should they be seriously interested in the player. Chelsea are tipped to be the other Premier League giants interested in the player and as always Spanish powerhose Real Madrid lurk in the wings.
Another obstacle in Man United’s path is the desire of the player himself. Benzema has been reported to have said that he wants to move to Spain or Italy rather than to England.
