Virtually everyone appears to be against the Premier League and its highly ambitious and somewhat naive plan to play a 39th rouund of the Premiership in international venues. FIFA, UEFA, top flight managers, fans, players and even the English FA are against the proposal.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger too is somewhat against the move and has drawn the curtain on the Premier League plans by insisting that the dream is over. The Frenchman doesn’t mince his words when he says:
The idea looks to be dead, maybe because the idea came out in a brutal way and maybe the PR was not done. Now it looks to be an idea which is in a very difficult position. I was open-minded but as well I will not cry if it doesn’t happen. I just felt there was something to explore there which will now not be done. It looks difficult to resurrect now because Uefa, Fifa and The FA have come out against it. It is a big stream to swim against now.
I have to agree with Arsene Wenger on this. The Premier League would do good to shelf their proposal in the drawer and carry with other projects, if any.
