Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich called for yet another meeting in the wake of Chelsea’s humiliating defeat to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Carling Cup final on Sunday. Top players including captain John Terry and manager Avram Grant were at the meeting.
The meeting was sort of an inquest held by the Russian oligarch into the Wembley showdown. Chelsea lost the match 2-1 despite taking the lead. This is the third time that Avramovich has taken personal interest in the team since Sunday. He was also present inside the club’s dressing room when the dejected players returned after the final loss.
It is said that manager Grant’s future at the club in enveloped in a cloud of dirt. He replaced Joe Mourinho in October and has been a good manager. Yet after the Carling Cup defeat, there have been question marks on his calibre to win big matches. That he shall no longer be in charge of Chelsea after this season is becoming more and more possible.
