Olympique Lyon striker Karim Benzema may apparently become the subject of a record £30m bid from Sven Goran Eriksson’s Manchester City (various).
This is, of course, doubly interesting when you consider that the young forward is already a big target of Manchester United (Daily Mail).
It seems funds are plentiful at Eastlands and even thought Benjani arrived from Portsmouth last month City could still do with some much needed firepower.
After all, they’ve only managed 34 goals in 27 Premier League games and, let’s face it, the addition of a talent such as Benzema would be hard to turn down.
If Sven can convince the French international that a move to an up-and-coming side like City would be in his long term interests then who knows?
Obviously, if such a move came with the added bonus of upsetting their neighbours, well I guess that’s worth an extra million or two as well.
But in all honesty, why does Sir Alex need Benzema, or indeed another long term target, Dimitar Berbatov? United have scored 79 goals in all competitions this season and its not as though the strikers and attacking midfielders they have are getting on in age – Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney are all the right side of 24.
