Manchester United captain Gary Neville is set to return to the first team after playing for 60 minutes for United’s reserves against Liverpool on Tuesday. The former England international has been out of footballing action for virtually a year and a comeback staged by him earlier in the season didn’t enable him to return to Sir Alex Ferguson’s first team.
But this time there is a genuine belief that Neville would be back for good. He appeared fit and physically adept against the Liverpool reserves on Tuesday and his return would be certainly embraced by Fergie.
Yet the apprehension that Neville might not continue for long in the top flight is indeed justified. He is already past 30 and even last season when he was fully fit, he didn’t look too convincing. Maybe after next season, Neville would hang up his boots and like his former United team mate Roy Keane dash into football management.
