Poor young Curtis Davies. The 22-year Aston Villa defender on loan from West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season has been one of the best players for Martin O’Neill and the 22-year old was also part of the England national squad that faced Switzerland last month. But as luck would have had it, he now faces a lenghty spell on the sidelines.
Davies ruptured his Achilles tendon on Saturday during the English Premier League clash with Arsenal and underwent surgery. He is now certainly out for the rest of the season and might even struggle to recover for the start of next season. A bitterly disappointed Curtis Davies says:
The operation went ahead on Saturday evening and the surgeon said it went very well. Obviously there’s a little bit of soreness there now and I’ll just have to rest it up and let everything settle down.
Yet Martin O’Neill is still to sign the defender on a permanent deal from West Brom in the summer.
