Poor old Kevin Keegan! With his Newcastle United side desperate to claw itself out of relegation trouble, the former Liverpool idol has been reminiscing about the great Bill Shankly.
Kevin Keegan says:
I feel blessed to have worked under people like Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley.
My positive outlook stemmed from working with Shanks. He meant a lot to me.
I think about Bill Shankly a lot. His positive outlook helped me. I know what it feels like when a manager says ‘hey you have something’ or when they are trying to get more out of you.
But only if you respect them. If you don’t it won’t mean anything. With Shankly he never said things he didn’t mean.
Liverpool should be playing in the Shankly Stadium.
There is a set of gates there but that isn’t enough for what he did for the club.
He had the ability to make you believe. If he said you were going to hell you would look forward to the trip.
We have to keep believing too. I have always been able to see the plusses.
Maybe a miracle is just what Keegan’s struggling Newcastle need at the moment although you do have to accept that Newcastle are just too good to go down. Maybe the Geordies would return to winning ways when they confront Liverpool at Anfield this weekend in the Premiership.
