For Rafa confidence is everything

Liverpool demolished an out of sorts Newcastle United side 3-0 at Anfield in the English Premier League and are now fourth in the table, 3 points ahead of their nearest challengers Everton.

The Reds destroyed Newcastle on Saturday and thoroughly deserved their win. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says that it was their confidence and self-conviction that did the trick.

Rafa says:

We needed to win and also to score three goals and keep a clean sheet is very positive when thinking about the next game.

Now we are winning everyone has more confidence and that is the key.

Pennant’s goal came courtesy of a lucky deflection and Benitez acknowledges the goal was fortuitous, but the Liverpool boss also praised his dynamic duo of Gerrard and Torres.

Sometimes you need luck. But at the end of the day we needed to be patient and keep passing the ball.

The understanding between them (Gerrard and Torres) is good and that is positive for the team. You can see that they are creating chances and are scoring goals.

But Everton should reclaim the prized fourt spot in the table after their match against relegation candidates Sunderland on Sunday. But the Red half of Liverpool would be desperately praying that the Blues stumble against the Black Cats.
