Arsenal are now just 2 points clear of second-placed Manchester United at the top of the English Premier League after being held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at the JJB Stadium by Wigan Athletic. Man United were in FA Cup action this week and now have a game in hand in the Premiership.
Yet Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident that the Gunners can relaunch themselves and increase the gap between them and the reigning Premier League champions Man United. Wenger says:
I am sure we will take-off again. We have to keep our calm, focus and belief.
I don’t know, we shall see at the end of the season (whether it was two points dropped or a point gained).
You go through a patch like that sometimes. The negative is that we have a deficit in points. The positive is that we didn’t lose a game.
Overall, there was room for us to take more. Not against Aston Villa – the point was what we deserved – but against Birmingham and today we lost four points.
But in the last few weeks, Arsenal’s form has been pretty much inconsistent and they have gradually let a considerable lead decimate. But with Wenger at the helm and Cesc Fabregas pulling the strings from the midfield, Arsenal are always a Premiership title contender.
