Fabregas has to wait for a new contract, says Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Cesc Fabregas needs to wait for some more time to pen his signature on a new and improved contract. Fabregas’ current contract expires in 2014 and although the player has expressed his eagerness to sign a contract extension, Wenger says that he must first deliver silverware to the Gunners to get a new contract.

Wenger remarks:

I don’t think this is the time to talk about contract situations, especially when a player is under a long contract.

I believe let’s first win something, in Europe or domestically, then you are in that league.

Cesc is still a bit young. You want him to develop as a player, the rest will then follow.

We want Cesc to continue to develop as a complete midfielder, more of what you saw against Milan on Tuesday night – that he can defend and attack.

That performance was most pleasing but the next step is to do that all the time.

Maybe this season fabulous Cesc will lead the Gunners to trophy success. Arsenal are into the last 8 of the UEFA Champions League and are also in the pole position of the Premiership at the moment.
