While Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger left the JJB Stadium seething in rage and frustration on Sunday, Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce was basking in joy and expectation. After all, his relegation threatened side had just held the current Premiership leaders to a 0-0 draw!
Wigan boss Steve Bruce says that he is happy with the draw and more importantly with the point. He remarks:
It could be the point that we need to stay up. They have produced a magnificent effort over the last few weeks to get us in the position that we are in.
We have got nine games to play, and if we keep playing with that endeavour, let’s hope that could be the point that takes us safe.
There was a chance for us there and I thought that the longer it went on and the more confident we got, that we could get something.
You need that belief. The longer it went we sensed we could get something.
Overall, before the game you would be absolutely delighted with the point.
We have shown over the past few weeks that we have got some good players here and a decent team.
Indeed Wigan need to be lauded for their spirit. After all, getting a point off Arsenal is never an easy task. Maybe this season the Lactics will survive the drop.
