Despite going into the make or break Merseyside derby game like a particularly fatalistic band of Flagellants, conceding within minutes, and going on to muster a blunt retort to Torres’ opener – Everton boss Davie Moyes is keeping the faith and still reckons that the Toffees can nab fourth. The ginger Braveheart said:
“A five-point advantage at this stage of the season is a great advantage but I’m looking over my shoulder at teams who are five points behind us and hoping we’ve got enough to stay clear, I’m sure those just above us are doing the same.
“We will fight on. I told the players afterwards that it is great Everton are coming here involved in games [which affect] thinking about the Champions League. I’ve no doubt we will pull it together. We could have gone under here but we didn’t. These players don’t lose often, don’t concede many goals, but the disappointment today was that we didn’t create any chances.”
Is Moyes in denial or can Everton still bag fourth?
