The money men seem to be set to back Kevin Keegan to the hilt this summer. After a shaky start to his return to St James’ Park the Newcastle legend has begun to see his side perform admirably. Clearly the new manager wants the squad to better resemble his playing style than the workmanlike side that ‘Big’ Sam failed to mould. Hence the array of attacking players on the radar.
Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan is ready to offer £6.5 million for Chelsea fullback Wayne Bridge (News of the World).
La Liga stars Luis Fabiano and Jose Antonio Reyes are high up on the Newcastle wish-list and Newcastle’s Spanish speaking recruitment chief Tony Jimenez has already been in contact with Reyes’ representatives (The People)
Keegan is also chasing unsettled and off form winger Aaron Lennon who is seeing less and less of the action under Juande Ramos (The People)
Clearly not all of these internationals will be heading to the north-east and I would outline Wayne Bridge as possibly the wisest purchase amongst this quartet.
