Jonathan Woodgate has let rip with a public tongue lashing after his side disgraced themselves at home to Newcastle. Granted, the Tottenham squad probably have less to get up for in the morning than your average lifer in jail – but Juande Ramos was brought in with a reputation for running a tight ship so it is surprising that Spurs were so abysmal.
“We need to go to Blackburn on Saturday and win — not draw. They are going for Europe and fighting on that front.
“I wish we were going for Europe because maybe that would give a few of the lads a kick up the arse. We need to be professional and work as hard as we can.
“The defeat at Manchester City was supposed to be a kick up the backside, but we obviously haven’t learnt. We’re not happy in the dressing room and we’re not going to be happy.”
It is hard to get too worked up about this, if some players are stupid enough to trot out tripe ridden displays then more fool them – Spurs may have nothing to play for with their Carling Cup win – but the players are playing for their futures under Ramos.
