Wise words and footballer are not normally words that belong in the same sentence but recent quotes attributed to the latest target of Spurs boss Juande Ramos have given me hope that professional footballers may be beginning to realise that agents do little to improve the lovely game!
Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Cameroon’s attacking midfielder Alain Nkong, with Juande Ramos said to be a big fan.
Nkong spoke of the possible transfer: “Since the African Nations Cup I have received calls from more agents than I’ve ever had in my life, one of them was from Tottenham, but my experiences have made me distrustful. That’s why I don’t employ an agent because I have never found the right person. I will listen to concrete offers on my own. If there really is something, then I will go.” (various)
Nkong’s most illustrious spell prior to his outstanding efforts at the recent African Cup of Nations came during a spell at Spanish minnows UD Las Palmas (where of course Vinny Samways lived it up for a few years). Now plying his trade in Mexico so it is very hard to judge his consistency at the highest level although the beauty of not having to deal with a player’s agent may be enough alone to consider bidding for the 28 year old.
