You may think the wording was robust, but I do believe that having a solid and dependable keeper can be key to success and even though Manuel Almunia has been dependable in the Arsenal goal, I think Jussi Jaaskelainen is a more reliable keeper and after seemingly an age at the top level he has very few high profile errors to speak of and more than enough clean sheets to warrant the tag of one of the best in the Premier League. What’s more is he is free! Out of contract in the summer after a decade plus at Bolton and Arsene Wenger leads the chasing pack for what really could be a very intelligent signing.
Finnish International Jussi Jaaskelainen is a free agent in the summer after 11 seasons at the Reebok and Arsenal and Aston Villa are planning to lure him with a bumper pay packet.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also a known admirer of Jaaskelainen and could head an auction for his services given there is no fee. (Daily Star)
At 32 he is still not passed it in goalkeeping terms (five years younger than in form David James) and given he is available for nothing it is surely a signing that Wenger would be very wise to invest in. Even given the strict wage structure in place at the Emirates, clearly Jussi is not so high profile to be demanding a bank breaking salary. Something to ponder, he has 11 clean sheets this season for Bolton and that’s for a side that is currently third from bottom in the table, enough said!
