Liverpool are considering a succession of bids for three wide men in one hell of a domino rally of rumours that are too far fetched to give any credence to! But they could still be amusing to read about.
Rafa Benitez, keen to bring in English talent to Anfield in case UEFA’s homegrown rule comes into effect, has apparently set his sights firmly on Arsenal teenager Theo Walcott, but should they fail in that bid they will turn their attention to Spurs star Aaron Lennon and should that bid also fail they will settle for Charles N’Zogbia, Newcastle’s multi -purpose Frenchman. (Various)
Right, and if all of these fail then he will consider asking Peter Beardsley to come out of retirement. Whilst it seems to be true that Benitez is keen on bringing in some British talent, I think the more likely candidates would be David Bentley or David Wheater. If any of the three previously mentioned were to make it to Liverpool it would be N’Zogbia. The idea that Arsenal would allow Walcott to join their rivals is absurd and Juande Ramos has already made it clear that Lennon has a future at Spurs so is unlikely to sell.
