Chelsea captain slates Arsenal’s lack of ‘English backbone’

Which is quite strange, considering that Arsene Wenger has steered the club to a number of league titles without a particularly strong English element within the team. The Sun report that the loveable John Terry, the lover of all officials and general peacemaker, has cited Arsenal’s lack of English players as a reason that they’ve failed to stay the trip in the Premier League this season. This is a good one:

“You need an English backbone — that force, that togetherness, that pulling together.

“That’s what the English players have. It’s why Arsenal might come up short in the run-in.”

Perhaps it would have been more accurate to say the following:

“You need a Russian billionaire – that money, that squad size for it to all come together.

“That’s what Chelsea have. It’s why we have managed to last the pace, while Arsenal have gone about it in the right way.”

Blues fans will obviously disagree but is there anybody more obnoxious than the man recently deposed as England captain? COS hopes that if Arsenal do come up short, then Manchester United make sure that the Premier League title goes to a proper football club with a history.
