Depending on which Arsenal fans you talk to, you get a different answer to the following question. Is Manuel Almunia good enough to be Wenger’s first-choice keeper week in, week out?
Some say yes he is good and should be thought of as the number one and some say he needs more pressure for top spot or indeed that a keeper needs to be brought in to replace the Spaniard (who may of course still become an England international). Apparently a ‘massive’ solution may be in the offing in the shape of a giant keeper.
Arsenal want to sign 6ft 5in Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes from PSV Eindhoven for £10m. (The Sun)
Personally I think Almunia has done enough to hold the first-team jersey but maybe a new keeper is needed to keep him on his toes as Fabianski seemingly isn’t ready for the jump to first-team football just yet. Therefore putting such an investment in Gomes doesn’t seem that wise to me.
