The sports pages are brimming with gloriously over-the-top stories (is there a big match on or something?), The Sun have a headline that simply says:
“BLUNATIC”
whilst the Daily Mail bellows:
“MAD MAK: Cole injury doubt after ‘red card’ tackle by team-mate in training”
The headlines are very melodramatic, but all you have to do is look at the pictures to see that Makelele – the midfield genesis of so many Chelsea moves and the douser-in-chief of opposition attacks – made a very big boo-boo. Quite what possessed the elder statesman of Stamford Bridge to scythe two-footed through Ashley Cole, right under the nose of Avram Grant, is beyond us. And now, poor Mr Cole is a “major doubt” for the Champions League final. What could anyone possible have against Ashley Cole? On second thoughts, don”t answer that…
