£50million Liverpool transfer rumour is “beyond comprehension”

You can imagine the protests that would have taken place if the Liverpool board had agreed to sell Fernando Torres to Chelsea for the princely sum of £50million. Some players are invaluable and the Spanish striker certainly falls into that category at Anfield, given his importance to the team as far as goalscoring is concerned.

The Daily Mirror report that Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has reacted angrily to the rumours that the player is set for west London in the summer, blowing them out of the water in no uncertain terms.

His spokesman said: “It is simply beyond comprehension. There is no circumstance in which Torres will be sold.

“Why would the owners invest so much money in supporting the manager, to then undermine that support? It is ludicrous.”

While it would be beyond comprehension for most football club owners, it’s hard to predict the actions and words of Hicks and especially Gillett. However, Liverpool fans will be heartened that this story is no more than pie in the sky and that Torres’ armband well and truly prove he was a Red.
